Softball Preview: Tennessee Tech – University of Tennessee Athletics

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 17/18 Tennessee softball team will play its first home game of the 2022 season Wednesday evening, welcoming the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. First pitch for the in-state non-conference matchup is scheduled for 5 pm ET.

Single-game tickets are available at and can also be purchased at the Sherri Parker Lee ticket office when gates open to the public at 4 pm Parking is free for all Tennessee home softball games in lots S14 and C25 adjacent to Sherri Parker Lee Stadium and Regal Soccer Stadium, and fans should note that Tennessee Athletics’ clear bag policy will be in effect.

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee took a pair of top-10 teams to extra innings this past Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic but came up short in both matchups. The Lady Vols fell to No. 1 Oklahoma 9-8 in 10 innings before being defeated by No. 6 UCLA 2-1 in eight innings at the Big League Dreams Wrigley Field in Cathedral City, California.

MILLOY MISSILES: Junior outfielder Kiki Milloy showcased her power at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, totaling a tournament — best four home runs in six games over the course of the weekend. In a field of 27 teams, she also ranked second among all players at the MNCC with 11 runs scored, 10 RBIs and four stolen bases.

For the season, Milloy’s seven home runs rank sixth in the NCAA and second in the Southeastern Conference. She also sits third in the league with 41 total bases and sixth with 17 RBIs.

UPDATE RANKINGS: After last week’s showing in California, the Lady Vols check in at No. 17 in the USA Softball / and D1Softball top 25 national rankings. Tennessee is tabbed 18th in the country by both USA Today / NFCA and Softball America.

NOTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES: In her third season at the helm of Tennessee Tech softball, Michelle DePolo has her Golden Eagles out to a 9-5 start to the 2022 campaign. TTU most recently picked up back-to-back wins over Pitt (10-7) and Cleveland State (8-3) to close out the Wings Etc. Classic in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Sophomore infielder Mackenzie Fitzgerald leads the Golden Eagles with 23 hits in 14 games, boasting a .442 average and 19 runs scored. Senior two-way player Haeli Bryson stands out on the TTU stats report, leading the team with three home runs and 22 RBIs while logging 30 innings pitched with a 3.27 ERA and 23 strikeouts.

Senior pitcher Alyssa Arden leads the Tennessee Tech pitching staff with 40.0 innings pitched, 33 strikeouts and a 1.93 ERA.

HISTORY SERIES: Tennessee has won all 22 of its games against Tennessee Tech, which is UT’s longest active winning streak against any opponent. The Lady Vols most recently beat the Golden Eagles 8-0 in five innings on April 12, 2021.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols will host the Tennessee Invitational this weekend as Dartmouth, South Alabama and Virginia travel to Knoxville for the annual home tournament. UT opens the invitational with a doubleheader Friday, taking on Dartmouth Friday at 3 pm before facing Virginia at approximately 5:30 p.m.
