IoRT is here to transform the world and take it towards productivity and efficiency
The world has already witnessed the capabilities of the internet of things in the last couple of years. Now, tech purists have discovered a new concept to establish effective communication between automated devices and convey data over the existing internet. This is called the Internet of Robotics Things.
Well, what is the internet of Robotic Things (IoRT)?
Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT) is the convergence of the internet of things (IoT) and robotics. It is an emerging concept where autonomous machines communicate with each other by gleaning data from multiple sensors to perform complex tasks.
Let’s take a closer look at this concept. Internet of Robotic Things comprises three components:
- Intelligent Device or Robot embedded with monitoring and data collection features.
- Data Analysis via local and distributed intelligence or edge computing.
- The merger of sensors data with intelligence to determine actions
What are Real-World Applications of IoRT?
The Internet of Robotic Things is being used across various industrial areas.
Warehouses: Robots can navigate around warehouses by following a series of computerized barcode stickers on the floor.
Smart Home: The IoRT has become more prevalent for future smart homes. This is because of its ability to produce visual cleaning maps of the home and communicate with smart home devices.
E-Commerce: The increasing adoption of connected devices and the proliferation of robots that deliver enhanced customer experience are also defining the future of the Internet of Robotic Things in e-commerce.
Construction: Robots can automate labor-intensive and life-threatening activities like scaffolding, loading, and unloading heavy construction equipment, etc., at construction sites.
Healthcare: Today, IoRT-based robots can go into patient rooms. They can perform measurements and collect information by employing sensing capabilities. This also allows for real-time and remote monitoring of patients.
